Back in th BEACH son!!!

I love VA Beach! I really do.

More than cookies...
and I love me some cookies!

SOOOO, I've been spending time with the OB's, and seeing old friends...dramaaaaaa.
I promise I'm making good decisions, though.
I'll be getting myhair re-braided so none of you have to suffer through this drama on top of me head.
We took a nostalgia tour yesterday so I could see the old Bayside high school! I also saw the places I'd lived in Va Beach...memorieeeeeessss. *tear It's crazy how much it's changed, but somethings are still there...like the auto place by the airport! So random, but it's exactly the same. Small piece of joy: there are Navy Federal Credit Unions EVERYWHERE!!! I can hardly stand it!
Side note, having friends that work in restaurants is a blessing...yum,and yum, and yum some more!

Guess where we're going tomorrow...BUSCH GARDENS! I'm stoked for real!

Alright I'm signing off for a bit, more updates on Thursday, after out trip...
I hate that the time is winding down...

Love you all,

Vida!

Jessica Good news

I talked to MY lovely roommate Jessica Lynn Jenkins Sturgis Rinaldi Vaughan...and she's doing great! I was super excited to hear her good news...Allison B. is having a baby! I'm so excited for her and Joe, and for auntie Jess as well! Mazel tov! Good things!

Speaking of which, I miss MY nephew! I have talked to him on the phone, and MY lovely sister Alura has made some fantastic videos for me (that I share with EVERYONE). As sweet as that is, nothing will compare to seeing his grinning face, or listening to him tell me hoe funny I am! I miss MY baby!

Now I'm homesick...

Love you all,

Vida.

Florida!!! Ugh! I mean YAY!

Florida.
What can I say?
First of all, it was as hot as standing in front of a broiling oven-with all the burners on-in a house with the heat turned up-all the windows closed-wearing a North Face jogging suit-with a Triple Fat Goose jacket on...no exaggeration.
Some people I vacationed with were not aware of the heat and made plans to do OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES...tsk, tsk; and as a result, MY cousin and I had to cut our shopping extravaganza short to retrieve them from the desert. I'm not saying any names but this person might have the same face as MY sister, with a few more years under her belt...lol
What else???
Well, those of you who know me are aware that I tend to find the humor/fun in most circumstances. I guess Florida was no exception.
Overall, the conference was good, MY Pastor gave an incredible edible word as usual.
Seeing my family was amazing! I was amazed at how bulbous MY cousin has become...bulbous and emotional. So much funny that will have to be kept to myself, but it was funny nonetheless. No bugs for that chica! It's crazy to think that the months are winding down so fast...Michaela will be here soon!
I really missed MY Mommmmmmmyyyyyy. She was doing it big in Florida; hair done, nails done, makeup fierce! I think she was being fast, but who am I to judge? lol
Grandma, was...grandma; 'nuff said. She still has the smartest mouth on the PLANET! Loves it!

Side note: took out my braids (sans help) and the NG...MY God! Transitioning is certainly not the cutest undertaking ever, but at least MY cousins Michele and Annette were on hand to help with the "curls"...if you can even call them that.
Parting was such sweet sorrow...but I'll be back in Michigan in a few weeks...

Love you all,

Vida

First Night in VA!

Saturday started out horribly...and ended wonderfully!
My good friend Anna and her sis Sandra met me and we had dinner and kicked it at their hotel. I was in a HUGE bind and they def saved my butt! I don't know how I'm going to show my appreciation, but I will soon!
Sunday, I hopped the train to VA Beach! I spent the better part of my ride surrounded by 3 senior citizens, who plied me with chocolates, and told me their life stories! These guys were hilArious! We ate hot dogs and chips, and they asked about a billion questions, but I had a blast!
After I arrived, Ty and Reg took me to Chang's, and I got to see the lovely Emily! We hung out for a bit, grabbed a bite, and headed to the crib. Needless to say, I was exhausted! Em and Tay's two lil boys are soooo cute; Jordan has gotten so big!
I don't know what we're doing today, but I'm on the hunt for a braider so I can get rid of the current style.
I leave on Thursday for Florida...I'm still trying to get psyched up about that, but I'd rather be about a million places...oh well.
P.S. I got to talk to my baby TWICE this week! He misses his Auntie, and she misses him!

Love you all,
Vida

Week 3

Week 3 in Alexandria has finally come to a close!

I love that we're working as a well-oiled machine now; we're just so efficient. The kids this week were hilarious and very intelligent. We had almost twice the enrollment of last week, but I definitely adjusted quickly. I was sad to see another group go but...on to the next one!

The highlight of my week has been reconnecting with Dontee and Aunt Lisa!!! It's crazy how long it's been since I've seen them and I hope to see their faces really soon! I cannot believe how olllllld Dontee sounds now lol. He has a 3 yr daughter and a beard now! Aunt Lisa sounds as sweet as she always was, and I could barely contain my excitement when we spoke!

Side note: being in my HOME STATE is an indescribable feeling! I have no idea why VA is so heavily imprinted on my heart, but it is! I am on my way to Charniece's for the weekend in Odenton MD, and then to VA Beach before *heavy dramatic sigh* I'm off to Florida...more on that later....

Love you all,
Vida

2nd week!

Quick update: I still womp at blogging but I'll get better (I hope)

This week went by so quickly! Thank God that all my nervousness was completely unfounded! I could not have asked for a better team to work with, or a better group of scholars. Newton is a super cute town, and exploring has been fun. I'm amazed that such a small town boasts such an incredibly multicltural community. My scholars and their families come from all parts of the globe, which definitely adds a really cool dynamic to how we interact.

I am def getting along great with my coworkers....they are an interesting bunch to say the least! My Program Coordiantors, Becca and Kiki, are fanfriggintastic, and I'm learning a lot from both of them! Kiki is good friends with Charity, who referred me, and we have lots of fun sharing Charity stories. Becca is super sweet and adorable!

Our program support team is made of of 3 guys, Joey, Maurice, Jonathan, and the lone female is the lovely and talented Christine. The guys could nmot be more different. Joey is a jock/brain. he's an incredible athlete, as well as super intelligent, and the kids loooooove him. He's their personal rockstar. Maurice is a Howard undergrad, and soooo very extra, and I love it. Jonathan is a frat, and highly intelligent; he's going in the footsteps of Ben Carson, his idol. and I daresay he's off to a great start. Christine is so multifaceted she defies description. What I can say is she's one of those people who you can't wait to see what they'll become.

Our Faculty Advisors are another eclectic bunch, from Southern belles, to sorors, to super world-traveled, but they're all great. I find myself in the company of the same few often but I'm still getting to know everyone.

The highlight for me this week was meeting Peggy Alvarez, our nurse for the better part of the week. She and I had some amAzing conversations this week about life and love...and I'm so glad God saw fit that we should meet. I can see myself being a lot like her when I'm older; sharp-witted, sweet and hilarious! I cannot wait to see her again!

All in all, I'm having a good time, and cannot contain my excitement for the next part of my journey....HOME AGAIN!!!

Love you all,
Vida

P.S. I've collected some keys for Booda! lol I still don't know why I support that habit!

Soooo I kinda fail at blogging...

Let's retrace for a sec....
My first week of work at Envision was great! I met a lot of cool people, and met my long-lost bff Rachel. She and are waaaaay too much alike for us to have just met. I'm excited for the first site; excited and nervous. I'm excited to meet the scholars and see the curriculum implemented, and I'm nervous because this is the fist week and I do not want to jack it up. I really miss my fam, and I think it's easier not to talk to them everyday, or missing them is all I would think about. That may not make a whole lot of sense to some, but it's my personal coping mechanism...
I cannot wait to get a chance to see Boston, and get to our swanky digs at Hotel Indigo, as well as see what Newton is like.

Love you all...
Vida
